Codes and Eligibility for COVID-19 Booster Shots

November 18, 2021

The FDA approved the Moderna and Janssen/Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines for booster doses on October 21. The Moderna booster is a half dose, so it uses a different vaccine and administration code.

People age 65+ or with underlying health conditions are eligible six months after their second dose, the same as the Pfizer booster. The Janssen/Johnson & Johnson booster is available to anyone 18 and over who received this vaccine two or more months after their first dose and uses a unique administration code.

The booster dose code isdifferent from the third dose for immune-compromised individuals. The federal government is currently covering the cost of the vaccines and you are only able to bill for the administration of the vaccine.

Check the COVID-19Provider FAQ for correct codes and additional information about administering COVID vaccines, cost share waivers, and other requirements related to COVID-19.
