Data and Artificial Intelligence Principles

LifeWise Health Plan of Washington is committed to using data and artificial intelligence to make healthcare work better for our customers.

At LifeWise, artificial intelligence tools are designed to respect human rights and benefit society, while promoting compatibility between human and machine systems. They conform to societal values. This includes compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. LifeWise will not use data or artificial intelligence in ways that cause harm.

Guiding principles

We will assess AI applications in view of the following guiding principles. All AI use at LifeWise will:

 Be transparent

We will be transparent to impacted parties about the data and processes used to create AI. AI systems and their decisions can be explained in a way that the impacted parties can understand.

Be fair

We will promote fairness and justice in design and development. All artificial intelligence technologies will be designed to avoid unfair discrimination against race, color, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity, and other protected classes.

 Protect privacy and security

We will fully protect individuals’ right to privacy and incorporate privacy principles into all aspects of design. Data and processes will be stable, reliable, and protected.

 Be accountable

Humans will oversee and be accountable for decisions made through artificial intelligence.

Involve open collaboration

We will encourage cooperation across disciplines to develop a broad consensus on standards for data and artificial intelligence.

 Continually improve

We will continue to learn and advance our technologies and governance systems through the entire life cycle of artificial intelligence products and services. As technology advances, we will anticipate risks and move in a direction that is beneficial to LifeWise’s customers and to society.
